KARAMA

1991

Before IKEA stores became the home of living inspiration in the UAE, it started with a small step - a modest showroom, market hall, self-serve area and 30-seater IKEA Restaurant & Café. The first store opened in the heart of Dubai, on the ground floor of what is now the Mostafawi building on Al Fahidi street. Only three trucks carried out deliveries and assembly services for customers while three cashier tills handled the daily influx of shoppers. All great ideas often have small beginnings. This was IKEA's small beginning in the UAE.

YAS ISLAND

2011

Since ten years of opening in Abu Dhabi, our family of customers was growing fast. That meant we needed to grow even faster. So IKEA Abu Dhabi, UAE bid goodbye to its store at Marina Mall and relocated to the newly developed Yas Island with a 450-seater IKEA Restaurant & Café. It was a good decision, given that the store welcomed nearly 1.3 million visitors in its first year of operation.
